AI-Powered Drill Bit Inspection for Precision Manufacturing

80% defect-level recall, 66% frame-level recall; faster automated inspection with full traceability

A global precision tool manufacturer replaced labour-intensive manual inspection with Tictag's AI video-defect pipeline — combining precision imaging hardware, dual-track models, and human-in-the-loop validation to catch micro-defects at scale.

Problem

A global precision tool manufacturer needed to maintain strict quality standards while accelerating inspection throughput. Manual inspection was slow, inconsistent, and unreliable for catching micro-defects on precision drill bits. They needed a scalable AI solution that could deliver accuracy, traceability, and speed across diverse defect types.

Solution

Tictag built an end-to-end inspection stack: AI-powered video defect detection on high-resolution 360° captures, expert and crowdsourced human-in-the-loop validation, and precision imaging hardware (telecentric lenses, ring lights, rotary stages) capturing micron-level detail. A dual-track AI architecture — fusing spatiotemporal and DETR-based models — maximised recall while keeping false positives in check.
